1962 Chrysler 300 Sport – 2 Door Hardtop / 383ci 340hp, 4bbl carburetor
The 1962 Chrysler 300 Sport was built as an introduction to the Space Age! The interior of this machine says it all. The era of the Big Fin was over and new designs were showing up everywhere. The ’62 Chrysler 300 had one of the biggest challenges ever. It had to follow in the footsteps of one of the best performance cars in history; the 1961 Chrysler 300G. Today, people will say that this new design met the Challenge successfully. Others will disagree but you must admit that the ’62 300 Sport is absolutely beautifully inside and out!
THIS 300 Sport is one of the nicest original 300s we’ve seen. After a professional frame-on restoration in 2005, this car still looks absolutely beautiful today. The 100% original body panels are pin straight and as good as new. All trim and chrome look beautiful and there is alot of it. Paint still shines beautifully but there are some swirl marks on the hood. This car has never been hit and has never seen rust. All glass except the front windshield is original with all markings still on them, vent windows included. All new rubber surround every window as well as the hood and trunk. The rubber looks new.
The interior is immaculate. Seats have been reupholstered during the restoration and are as good as new today. The entire dash is completely original and in pristine condition. The headliner is perfect and truly a work of art. Features and options include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat on drivers side, single front and rear speaker for the working AM radio.
Chrysler Air Conditioning works fine. The original Chrysler Air Temp sticker is on the front windshield behind the American Flag on the passenger side. (If it is THE original sticker, that would indicate that the front windshield is also original) They may actually reproduce that sticker but I havent found one anywhere! To be completely honest, I believe the factory would have originally placed the sticker on the rear windshield, not the front.
Every light and gauge in that Spacey dash works as it should. Same goes for the directionals, wipers, outside lights and everything else I may have missed.
The engine is a very powerful original 383ci engine pushing 340hp partially from the Carter AFB Competition 4 barrel carburetor that is still on the car (see photo). Dual exhaust also came with this car. 0-60 for this car was just over 7 seconds, a milestone in 1962. A strong runner, she starts right up, idles beautifully and gets going quickly.
New York State inspection is done annually and she passes every year. Tires and brakes are close to new. All lights and horn work perfectly. A spare tire and original Jack is in the trunk. ***The spare is not on a 48 spoke rim.
The Chrysler 48 spoke chrome wheels came with the 300 as optional equipment. They are in incredible condition as is this entire car.
Receipts come with the car documenting the 2005 restoration and since. A custom car cover is also included.
