1972 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Convertible / An Absolutely FLAWLESS #1 ShowCar
You are looking at one of the finest Olds 442 convertibles in the world. With so many top notch classics in the world, we do not take this statement lightly but in this case, we can say this with confidence. This is truly one of the best of the best.
This flawless #1 quality, multiple 100pt show winner has undergone a frame-off restoration sparing nothing. This 442 was thoroughly researched to ensure that every part and piece was restored to better than new condition and to factory specs. Nothing was overlooked! The cost of this incredible restoration exceeds the $150,000 mark.
The body and frame were stripped to metal and steel, and refinished to perfection. We have lots of documentation showing both the frame and body from beginning to end. The restoration was completed by www.RT66motorsports.com in 2016. Photos of the restoration are available on their website under “projects”. All major undercarriage and engine bay components were powder coated as well as other key parts including the convertible top bows & jack handle. Original spiral shocks and 1972 one year only T-3 headlights were used in the restoration. (For serious inquiries, a video and full binder can be shown upon request). The body was then refinished in its original color of Sunfire Yellow (GM code 56) in 2 stage base coat clear coat. The finish is flawless. The original steel and fiberglass hood is still on the car.
The interior is all new using all refinished original parts or brand new NOS parts when necessary. Nothing is out of place and everything, everything works as it should. This is a highly optioned car with features such as power steering, power brakes, power windows, power door locks, 4-way power drivers seat, AM-FM radio with 8-track, tilt wheel, cruise control, power trunk release, ice cold air condition using the new R134A system but showing all original R12 fittings. All features work perfectly! Factory seat belts are front & rear with both lap and shoulder belts. The Hurst Dual Gate/His & Hers shifter is as smooth as silk. The brand new black power top is extremely quiet and goes up, down and locks into place easily.
The best is yet to come! The engine! This 442 has its matching numbers 455ci “U” code engine and drive train. The previous owner rebuilt this car to perfection yet wanted a bit more from the power plant of the factory 1972 455 engine. While keeping in line with the original 455 engine, this matching numbers engine was rebuilt to the specs of a 442 W-30 engine from 1970 with a 370hp rating. The engine and transmission were completely rebuilt to 1970 W-30 specs by renowned Oldsmobile engine builders Rocket Racing & Performance in Wisconsin at a cost of $8550 for the engine alone. The air conditioning unit and system were completely restored by Classic Auto Air in Tampa Florida at a cost of $4800.
All specs were that of a true 1970 W-30 engine including a compression ratio of 10.25:1, Ga heads 409100, the F396021 Block, 2.07 oversized valves, the internals are 410448 and the carburetor is the original Rochester QuadraJet 4bbl #7042251. The transmission is the rebuilt original THD400 automatic. New stock inline dual exhaust were used. Gears are 342 while using the original 273 housing. A true work of art! Odometer reads 2900 which was set to Zero during the restoration. The complete restoration took place over a 3 year period between 2012-2015 and utilized the skills of the best of the best!
This 442 comes with restoration photos, original window sticker, protecto-plate and much more. A small portion of the detailed paperwork are shown in the photos. Much more is available.
